I bought this to try and catch fly tippers outside of my property. I didn’t want the hassle of installing it outside so I tried through the window by keeping it on the windowsill. I know that you’ll find advice stating not to use it in the window due to the glare. I have however at times managed to use it without a glare problem but you can sometimes see the blue lights reflecting in the window/video. I also couldn’t pick up any motion from having indoors on the windowsill and it facing the window, even if I walked straight passed it from right outside. Another thing I found was if it rained or your windows are dirty, it obviously impacts the quality greatly by having it indoors looking out through the window. Anyway, I knew this before I bought it but thought that may be useful information for some.

I then decided to start using it to watch my cat while at work/away! It works very very well almost to the point I got too many motion notifications as my cat is always in and out, climbing and running all over the place! I didn’t mind though and you can turn notifications off and adjust settings so you don’t get alerted/record as much. it’s brought me so much comfort being able to see him! the picture is clear enough that I can also see my prayer plants opening and closing/moving throughout the day! I like the alarm feature but I’ve not needed to use it, I tested it once and it’s pretty loud. I like that I can download footage from the motion detected, I sometimes catch Milo doing funny things on camera and even managed to catch him peeing on the floor, the quality was clear enough that I could zoom in and see whether he had left a puddle or not! I tried calling someone at home from my mobile to let them know but they didn’t answer the phone. Here’s what I loved most about the camera… Using the live view I saw my mum was in the room and she obviously didn’t notice what happened… I then turned on the microphone feature to speak to her and have a full blown conversation about the pee on the floor!! Sorry if that’s too much information!! picks up sound very well. the battery lasts quite long which surprises me. overall very happy.

Setup was simple, and the video quality is sharp. Two-way talk is functional, and Alexa integration is seamless. Design is sleek but weather-resistant, not waterproof. Battery lasts 1-2 months; frequent notifications drain it faster. The 30-day trial is great, but subscription is needed for full features.

We have a number of ring products now and we have had no priblems so far. Easy to install, easy to maintain, great video quality, easy connection to both the ring chime and wifi networks.

I find ring the simplest to set up. Brilliant stuff. You only get what you pay for. It’s worth the money

Having previously purchased two Ring indoor cameras and found them very good value, easy to install and set up, I wanted one of the outside cameras. I got the battery version, didn’t add the solar power nor the additional battery. I switched it on on 30/12/24 and at the time of writing, 11/1/25, the battery is at 86%. Image quality day and night is very good (but you need to trade off distance, angle, light to ensure that the image would be good enough for identification); motion detection range is good (say 15m); sound recording is good (it clearly picked up a conversation at about 15m). Be aware that the first charge of the battery takes several hours. The instructions for mounting on a vertical surface, eg a wall, rather than on a flat horizontal surface were not, in my opinion, at all clear. There are two small rubber button covers which hide the alternative mounting sockets for the support arm but discovering them wasn’t simple. Still, for £60 or thereabouts, it’s excellent value.
